CAREER TRUTHS: 3 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT YOUR CAREER

Are you having a challenge with regards to making a choice on the career to study and practice? Then this article is just for you. Enjoying a successful career begins with you knowing the truths about what a career is all about.
WHAT IS A CAREER?
We’ve heard about the word “career” like jingles and definitely if you ask a million people, you’ll definitely get a million answers. But I’ll try to make the definition simple and understandable.
“A career is a profession, calling or field of endeavour for which someone trains and considerably undertakes as a means of earning a living or as one’s life work - as a means of fulfilling purpose.”
NWOSU OBICHI
Motivational Speaker and Author

According to Wikipedia; the online encyclopedia, the word “career” is ultimately originates from the Latin word “carrus” which means “wheeled vehicle”. In other words, a career is a vehicle that helps one progress in life through training and experience. Making the right choice in career is a no-brainer, but should also not be made to look scary and difficult.

There are many myths and misconceptions about career, but I’ll be writing on five (5) interesting facts about Career.
     1.    EVERY CAREER IS IMPORTANT AND PROFITABLE
One of the myths you must have heard about is that some careers are superior while others are inferior. The truth is that no career is superior or inferior to the other, the secret lies in how proactive and competent a person can be in any career. We live in a world, especially in Nigeria where people have stereotyped thinking that if you are not an Engineer, Medical Doctor or Lawyer, you can’t make it big in life. The truth is that the society is filled with people who studied and are practicing “the big professional careers” but have little or nothing to show for. Every career is great if greatly pursued and it is the greatness in a person that makes his/her career great. We were all born “naked”, but nobody was born “empty”. We all have seeds of greatness in us that can help us change the perspectives of a particular career or better still make an indelible mark in any. Just to burst your bubble, some of world’s wealthiest persons today aren’t into the big professional careers, but have succeeded in changing the face of the respective careers they are charting today. Armancio Ortega is a Fashion Designer (tailor), but is the 6th richest man in the world. Ingvar Kamprad is one of the wealthiest persons in the world, but is a Furniture Maker (carpenter), and so many others. You can do same and even better in order to rule your career world.
     2.     YOUR CAREER IS NOT ALL THAT MATTERS
Many people feel that changing a career will solve all their problem. But that is wrong, the truth is simple; it is what you can make out of the career that matters most. Do you have ideas that can meet peoples’ needs, solve their problems and make the world a better place? How many wealthy people in the world got wealthy because they were privileged to gain access to formal education and chart a career for the mere sake of being called “career persons? The truth is that while formal education is important, it also doesn’t guarantee that a person will be wealthy. Many lawyers, doctors, engineers and even bankers are broke today because they lack knowledge about entrepreneurship and wealth creation because the school does not teach these ideals. Financial Independence is a product of being able to maximize your potentials, time and opportunities. It is also about being able to create wealth through ideas. Think of ideas you can create and recreate in your career and how your ideas can constantly be beneficial to people around you, then you will be financially independent.
      3. YOUR CAREEER WILL NOT SOLVE ALL YOUR PROBLEMS
Another bitter fact about your career is that it does not solve all your problems, but is a means to boosting your earning power. Wealthy people don’t depend only on their career for means of livelihood. They think out of the box and also leverage on their energy, time and skills for a more productive life. Your skills and talents are also important tools that can be harnessed to give you a better life.

THE SHADES OF SOCIAL MEDIA: WHY THE SOCIAL MEDIA ISN’T ACTUALLY SOCIAL

People can check up at any time of the day and just a few clicks they are in an entirely different world where they feel the world appears real. So many messages buzzing on their phones and laptops, viewing dazzling pictures of their crush, kiths and kins, uploading their best pictures(for most a stark reflection of their real self), use of  high-language vocabulary (which they might not even know the meaning), and more shocking giving information about themselves that should be kept secret. Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to the one of the wonders of the millennial age and the 21st Century: THE SOCIAL MEDIA. I can clearly remember that about two decades ago we never thought that anything like social media would exist. As a young man who grew up in Africa, Nigeria precisely, we didn’t even have phones how much more think of being on social media. Our lives were a triumvirate of home, school and church. But fast forward to today and you can rarely find any kid on the block who isn’t on social media as if there is any who isn’t seen such a person would be seen as being naive or old-fashioned. That’s the social media craze!
The rise of technological inventions and innovations has helped in creating platforms on which we can connect with our friends and loved ones and also meet new people in an egalitarian community of billions of people around the world. Constantly with every click people share their lives via social media handles like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and more. But the truth is that if the lure of social media is not properly controlled, then be rest assured that its wave would leave you worse for wear. Now let’s pry into the shades of social media.
THE SHADES OF SOCIAL MEDIA
There’s a popular saying that anything that has an advantage also has a disadvantage. Quite right, but I’ll prefer to marry it with another statement by saying that there are three sides to everything – the good, the bad and the ugly, and each shade brings has its own sweet and bitter tastes.  All you have to do is to wide-eyed not to go beyond the boundaries.

THE GOOD
The good of social media cannot be expressed in just few lines of an article, but in a nutshell, it has been a wonderful innovation that has beautifully changed every sphere of influence in the society. With a few flicks you can connect to old friends, make new friends and also share your thoughts for others to read and also interact with you. Most people have even found love on social media too. It has also changed the face of the business industry by being a profitable platform for people to sell their products and services. When I left college several years ago, I felt my graduation day would be the last day I’d see my friends, but the social media platforms have made it possible for us to reconnect. That’s the impact of the Information age.

THE BAD
While the impact of social media is deservedly laudable, it is important to point that it has its own bad side. The possible addiction to it can be so awful so much that people tend to lives there. They tend to give away valuable information that could be detrimental to their existence. They become culprits of “social media ignorance” by abusing the public and private of this powerful invention. Most people shares “unacceptable” pictures of themselves that are personality-revealing. More so, not everything on social media is actually real as people create fake lifestyles are stark reflections of who they are in reality. People do so much for things that have grave consequences.

THE UGLY
The fact a thing is right does not make it good enough for you to do. The high rate of internet fraud especially on social media is very alarming. Yet people are carefree with what they do on social media platforms. They fail to realize that there are “online wolves” waiting to cause havoc. Also, while making friends is a very nice idea, this must be done with caution as talks of people who have been molested, harassed and abused have hit the headlines on a daily basis. The suicidal effect of peoples’ actions has been deadlier than the tsunami disaster.

Don’t be tempted to do the bad and also make things to turn out ugly for you because you might be able to bear the consequences. Be sensible enough knowing that the social media is not actually like you think it is. It’s a different world of it won that is not actually social.

Cheers!
