YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF

Many cases of depression have been borne out of people’s bitterness about who they are. Their negative feeling of bitterness could lead to discontentment, dislike, and hatred of self that can escalate to them suffering from inferiority complex, and in terrible circumstances, prompt them to commit suicide. The obvious fact about it is that quite a number of people suffer from this issue and haven’t realized the sweetness in self-love. Realistically, you owe it to yourself to love yourself and no one can love you more or better than the way you love yourself. Self-love lights up our love for others.

One valuable lesson I've learnt in life is on self-love, worth and appreciation. In the whole of the universe, I've come to realize that there is no one like me and there can't be anyone like me. I was created differently from others and need to appreciate that. We are gifted, different and unique in creation and God definitely has a reason for that. Don't change your God-given identity and makeup for something else. Your identity is your unique selling proposition, product and potential. Many people complain about not liking how they are. But the truth is all they need to do is to discover their uniqueness. To buttress my point, there's this fable I'd love to share:

Once, there grew a little pine tree deep in the forest. It had needles that were evergreen. Yet it was glum. It said, "My needles are not as pretty as leaves. I wish I had golden leaves." The next morning, it found its wish had been granted. It had shining golden leaves. A man passing by saw the golden leaves and started plucking them. Soon the little pine tree was stripped bare. It again said, "I was wrong. I wish I had glass leaves. They would look pretty and no one would steal them." The next morning the tree saw that it was covered with glass leaves. They sparkled in the sunlight and tinkled gently. But along came a storm, and the glass leaves were all broken. Once more the little tree was bare. Now it said, "Leaves of gold and grass are pretty. But I wish I had green leaves." Again its wish was granted and it was covered with pretty green leaves. But then a hungry goat came and ate up all the leaves. "What a fool I've been!" sighed the little pine tree. "My needles were the best for me. I wish I could have them back again."
Fortunately, the little pine tree was granted its wish once again and it got back its pretty needles.

Don't be like the little pine tree; appreciate how you are, who you are and what you have because while you are busy worrying yourself over what you don't have and desiring that of another, someone else has less than you do and is content. If you decide to change who you are to be someone else, painfully you might not be as lucky as the pine tree to regain your real identity. I love myself and should feel the same way too. Consciously and constantly profess self-love.

I love myself and you should love yourself too.
Cheers!

A LETTER TO NIGERIANS: THE PROOF OF TRUE LEADERSHIP – MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE

Why are some nations doing better than others even with fewer resources? Why are some organizations on the high while others struggle? The answer is not far-fetched; “everything rises and falls on leadership.”
The truth is that leaders inevitably make things better or worse for the people who follow them. When a leader is good, everyone and everything around him gets better. But when a leader is bad, everyone and everything around him suffers and gets worse. Leadership makes every experience and endeavour either bitter or better. Every organization or nation is a reflection of the kind of leadership it has. Their current condition is as a result of who their leader is. I’ve always been of the opinion that to see how a leader is doing, all you have to do is to look at condition of the people. To buttress my point, Leadership Expert, Max Depree once said: “The signs of outstanding leadership appear primarily among the followers.” The best leaders are very intentional about developing their people and nation.

Prior to the 1980 America Presidential election, the Presidential debate between Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reegan was an eye-opener to the Americans on the proof of true leadership. The turning point of the debate was when Ronald Reegan asked the American people some hearty questions. He said:
Next Tuesday is Election Day. Next Tuesday all of you will go to the polls and stand there in the polling place and make a decision. I think when you make that decision it might be well if you would ask yourself, “Are you better off than you were four years ago? Is it easier for you to go buy things in the store than it was four years ago? Is there any more or less employment in the country than there was four years ago?” If you answer all those questions yes, why, then I think your choice is obvious as to who you’ll vote for. If you don’t agree, if you don’t think that this course that we’ve been on for the last four years is what you would like to see us follow for the next four years, then I could suggest another choice that you have.”
Certainly, the Americans didn’t like their condition, so they changed their leaders, and that was how Ronald Reegan became the 40th President of the United States of America. So why did the Americans choose Reegan over Carter? Here are the reasons:
The reign of Jimmy Carter was a hobble for the Americans. His administration struggled to respond to formidable challenges such as violation of values as his much-vaunted reputation for honesty was shattered by financial impropriety by one of his trusted allies. Also, a major energy crisis as well as high inflation and unemployment led to his undoing. These issues marred Carter’s public relationship and popularity.
This is food for thought. One of the things we must do as Nigerians is for us to answer the same questions being asked to the Americans by Ronald Reegan, and even more. Author, Dale Galloway opines, “The growth and development of people is the highest calling of a leader.” On a scale of 1 is to 10, what score can you to the current leadership of the country without being bias? How can we describe our experience in the last four years? Has it been bitter or better? Can we beat our chests and boast that things have been better for us in the last four years that should make us want to continue for the next four years with the current administration? Has the current leadership been able to manage and resolve conflicts amicably? Have they been able to initiate significant changes that have transformed the nation? Have they been able to deliver on the promises they made four years ago?
The success of any nation is dependent on the strength of its leadership, and factually no nation can rise above this. As we transit into the New Year with new hopes and aspirations for the betterment of ourselves, let’s make up our minds to make the right decision as the election period gradually comes up. Don’t forget that whatever decision you make – be it good or bad, is what you will live with for the next four years. Realistically, four years is a lot of time to endure a bad decision and choice. Think right, act right. Happy New Year. Cheers!

A TIME TO REMEMBER

Yesterday evening, I was invited over by a friend of mine for an Executives’ meeting in his company. I was honoured by being asked to give a pep talk on the company's financial and administrative policies. This was awesome. At the end of the session I felt happy to have imparted into people. That's my higher calling in Christ like Apostle Paul wrote. I began my presentation by asking my audience a question: 'what is the need for a meeting?', In other words: 'why are meetings important?'. You can agree with me that you've been to meetings that turned out to be so mind-blowing, enriching and impactful, while some others were so messy and regretful. I discovered the secret to meetings few weeks back and it's been tremendous for my life. In his book, 'LEADERSHIP GOLD', Leadership Expert, John Calvin Maxwell wrote : "The secret to a good meeting is the meeting before the meeting". The reason for many failures in careers, businesses, ministries, marriages and lives is lack of priority for a meeting. I strongly believe we must make it a conscious habit to have a 'Daily Personal Meeting". In this meeting, you map out the direction of your life - your vision, mission, goals, priorities and possibilities. Daily Personal Meeting leads to restoration, revival, transformation, deliverance and salvation as it gives us an opportunity to review and preview our thoughts, deeds and actions. Jesus practised this principle, he always sought quiet time to do this for his ministry and life. He was so successful, and we can also enjoy success if we do same. The whole truth is that the best and most important meeting in life is the meeting with God. Ponder on this thought of mine.

Cheers!

THE SOJOURNER’S TALE

My world is not at peace

Docked in prison with heavy-metal chains at my feet
Telling tales with endless twists
Never enough for a midnight chill
At moonlight reminiscing memories on the prison window’s sill
Sharing tales of clustered pictures of a sojourner's drills

Fighting endless wars in his mind for crimes

That he’s not guilty of that has made him lose faith
He was undefiled by the lure and advances made to him by sweet nectar's
He didn't sell his conscience for luxury, but kept a legacy
He did away with all that was thrown at him
Thorns and fire, arrows and ambush
Yet even when it seemed his strength had waned
He defeated them all till the last drop of his blood

The cloud is heavy and the rains are about to be released

Like a tsunami, its destructiveness is nothing compared to hell
One man's poison is another’s meat

Fighting battles both with his fists and on bended knees

Without fear and also dared to win, it was no retreat, no surrender
Live like there's no tomorrow
Fight for what is right
Because even in death, we still live...

HOW TO BOOST SALES IN YOUR BUSINESS (1):

Success in sales is a possibility. It requires deliberate actions taken in a desired direction. The stark reality is that how high an organization increases its profitability is largely determined by how high it is ready to increase its sales. Sales and Profitability are intertwined because when there are no sales, then they will be no profit, and vice versa. Therefore, for organizations to boost their sales for profitability, then they need to understand and apply the fundamental principles of sales/selling.

Here are the 5 fundamental principles of Sales/ Selling

In his best-selling book, The Secrets of The Millionaire Mind, Harv T. Eker advised, “It is not enough to be at the right place at the right time, but be the right the right person at the right place and at the right time.” This quote is ideal for business companies and sales person that want to boost their sales for profit. Understanding the fundamental principles of sales will help you and your company be in the mind of your customer and become every customer’s first and favorite choice.

PRINCIPLE 1 – SALES/SELLING IS A SKILLFUL ART:

Not everybody can sell. But there are people who have mastered the art of selling. The truth is that every successful salesperson requires consistent training in order to be able to record high sales that will lead to profitability for his/her organization. The mastery of the art of selling demands in-depth knowledge in three crucial areas:
  • Knowledge of the product
  • Knowledge of the market
  • Knowledge of the customer

It is expedient to understand that knowledge in the areas is crucial, but applying them would work wonders for any organization that wants to record high profit through sales.

PRINCIPLE 2 – SALES/SELLING IS AN ATTITUDE

The difference between a successful salesperson and a mediocre sales person is in their attitudes. Successful salespersons possesses positive mental attitude, while the mediocre sales person possesses a negative mental attitude. There’s this story about the Bata Shoe Company. The Company sent two sales executives to sell its products in a remote area. The first executive went there only to call back to tell the company that they can’t make sales there because the people don’t wear shoes. The Company instructed him to return, and then sent another executive to the same location without telling him about the challenge faced by the first executive. The second sales executive went there and quickly called the company to send in more of its products because the demand for it was high because the people desperately needed shoes to wear. Why were their outcomes different? It’s simple; the difference in their attitude was the decisive factor. The first sales executive saw a difficulty, while the other saw an opportunity. Motivational Speaker and Author, Zig Ziglar rightly said: “Your attitude, not your aptitude will determine your altitude”. Successful salespersons understand this because they know that they need to be positively aggressive and result-oriented if they are to make high sales to record high profit. Statistics reveal that 50% of salespeople quit after the first call in a complex sale…80% of sales are closed after the fifth call or after the fifth closing attempt”. Every salesperson needs to understand that rejection is an experience they will always encounter and developing a staying power is very crucial. They must not see rejections as walls, but as bridges for success in sales.

PRINCIPLE 3 - SALES/SELLING IS ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT AND ITS BENEFITS

Study reveals that companies are profitable in direct proportion to their quality ranking as customers perceive it. The hidden truth is that customers are more interested in the quality and benefits of your product(s) than the price. Every successful sales company/person is very conscious of the quality of its products and services. The reason why a customer will prefer the products/services of another person or company to yours is because they are offering better quality products with benefits than you. This is what gives you ‘the competitive edge’.
There are three (3) key areas for competitive advantage:
  • The quality of the product or service on offer and the benefits that come with it.
  • The way the product is sold or the service is being rendered.
  • The way the quality of the product or service is being sustained and improved.

PRINCIPLE 4 - SALES/SELLING IS A PERSUASIVE EFFORT

Every successful salesperson understands that sales/selling is about the benefits and not the products. Everything involving the actions and words of your company/business is of essence in boosting sales. Effective communication is the key in persuading a customer to buy your products and services.

The two key factors in effective communication are:
  • The quality of information (what you tell people about your products/services).
  • The manner of communication (the way or manner you communicate your products/services to your customers).

Remember, you might never have a second chance to create a good first impression in the minds of your customers.

PRINCIPLE 5 – SALES/SELLING IS A PERSONALITY

Every successful company understands that its self-concept is very important in boosting its sales for profit. It is also expedient to note that every person is a personality. This certainly means that self-concept of a company determines its credibility and appeal to potential clients/customers.

There are 3 - parts of self-concept:
  • Self-Ideal - This talks about the vision, mission and values of your company. What do you need your customers to know about your business – what do you have to offer with regards to products and services?
  • Self-Image - This focuses on general perspective of your business by customers. How or in what way do you want customers to see your business/company? What perception do you want your customers to have of your business/company?
  • Self-Esteem – This focuses on ‘feel-good factor your business/company gives to your customers. What message are you communicating that speaks well of your products/services that would appeal to customers?

Self-concept is essential in creating a great personality for your business/company.
