BROKEN LINES 1

A soldier is wounded yet his very own cast him away.
His missteps in the battlefield have made him to be neglected like a rotten corpse.
He’s bleeding from the deep bruises of the enemy’s attack,
He desperately needs a helping hand, but finds no one he knows to come to his aid
And is left to suffer his excruciating pains in a world of his own
Then out of the blues, he felt a strange hand giving him relief.
The same fellow beckoned on him to follow him into the dark which he did.
A totally strange world he found himself ,that has never had any beauty in it.
The heartbreak caused by the dejection he suffered from people he thought were his family made him seek a new belief that has lured him into the dark world of profanity.

Why do we reject our own and making life a living hell for them?
We call ourselves members of the same body, but we let our own suffer their fate alone.
Why do we let our own fall prey to the hunter’s trap?
We share in Holy Communion from the Lord’s Table, but we can’t be our brother’s keeper.
Why do we turn a blind eye to the demise of the soul of our very own?
We preach love, yet our hearts are far away from each other.
Why do we allow the thick dark clouds of evil dominate our own?
We call on the name of our only true God together, but we don’t practice what we preach.
Why do we reject and abandon our own to die at the forefront of the enemy’s attack?
We claim to be friends that would stick closer than a brother, but we are nothing more than familiar
strangers.
Why do we fail to help our own and leave them to fail deep into the devil’s nest?
We are the church, yet we reject our own and make them castaways
What do we do now to rescue our soldiers held in captivity?

CAPACITIES TO BUILD FOR LEADERSHIP 2

Why do many people shy away from leadership? Why do many people reject or at some point get frustrated in leadership? The answer is not far-fetched, it is simply
because they expected a cozy ride and never anticipated the challenges that come with it. Also, they were not prepared for the demands of leadership. It is expedient we understand that leadership is not a destination, but a journey that is required in our everyday life. Leadership demands deliberate actions taken in a desired direction that is why building capacities is important for this journey.

HERE ARE THE OTHER CAPACITIES TO BUILD FOR LEADERSHIP
THE CAPACITY TO INITIATE VISION:
Vision is an important feature of leadership. In fact, great leaders are visionary –
they have a very clear mental picture of a preferred future. They know where
they are going to and how to also get there. It is important to understand that if
you want to be a successful leader, then you need have a vision. Why? This is
because people don’t follow a leader; rather they follow a leader that initiates a
vision that appeals to them. A visionless and uninspiring leader will lead people to
perish. A leader lights the path and also initiates action by leading others to follow
suit. The Law of Foresight states: “Leaders have the ability to predict and
anticipate the future.” Always remember, vision without action is a nightmare,
and action without vision is a daydream.

THE CAPACITY TO CONNECT:
The need to identify, relate and share with others is very important feature of
human relationship – that’s what I call connectivity. Connectivity is the ability to
identify and relate with others in such a way that have you become a big and
positive influence on them. Successful leaders understand the importance of
connecting with people. Every follower wants a relationship that can help them
relate with you in a special way. So the onus is on the leader to deploy ways he or
she can effectively use in relating with the people they lead. Leadership Expert,
John C. Maxwell once wrote: “Leaders touch a hand before they can ask for a
hand.” Effective love communications in both words and actions are vital.

THE CAPACITY TO MASTER CHANGE:
There’s a popular saying that change is constant. But I also strongly believe that
Change is the unchangeable law of progress.” Successful leaders understand
this and have become masters of change. They clearly know that there is stark
difference between motion and progress. The best way to master change and be
progressive in leadership is by being a life-long learner. You need to constantly
feed yourself with current and relevant information in your field of endeavor to
avoid being obsolete. The secret is for you to learn, unlearn and relearn – be a live
update by being on a live update!

THE CAPACITY TO SERVE:
It is rightly believed that leadership is service to others. A powerful principle of
Service states: “There’s no service without sacrifice.” Servant-hood and
Stewardship are off-springs of leadership. Remember “the Good Shepherd lays
down his life for the sheep.” When you heartily serve others, people will in turn
also serve you. Learn to lead and live to serve others.

DEEP WATERS

Muddled in the deep muddy waters of frustrations
A young lady’s plight is killed by a randy man’s bad intentions.
She’s persuaded to sell her oranges and watermelons for some crispy bills
She’s caught between the devil and the deep blue sea
She dies more than million times in her heart and mind despite her pleas
Then her conscience is killed by the stray bullets of perpetuated evil deeds
Now she’s so deep in this evil and lost in the gulag of mediocrity.

I know of a young man with beautiful dreams like the rainbow
So colourful and bright that you can hardly not know
Soon life became misery for him that he lost his soul
To the wiles of the devil’s advocates that promised him riches untold
Too young he died for something not worth dying for
But he failed to realise that we only live life just once.

I met an aged woman a few months ago
So old that she could barely smile because her heart was so cold
Her wrinkles and bent back from hard sufferings told me stories I needed to know
She lost her all in a cold war so long ago
And her heart yearns for the love of loved ones
Then she died in a pool of her own blood
She committed suicide because she couldn’t take it anymore
She felt so forlorn for so long and now she’s no more.

UNFADING LOVE: SECRETS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LOVE RELATIONSHIP (LOVE SECRET 1)

SECRETS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LOVE RELATIONSHIP
Why do the love relationship experiences of people differ? Many people enjoy while others endure in their love relationships. Many people get into a relationship, walk down the aisle and live blissfully, while others live through hell and later regret and wish they were never in the relationship. Domestic violence, sexual assault and abuse, conflict and painful separations have become the order of the day in our society. But the question is “why do people suffer in love relationship?”. The reason is because they make the wrong choices as a result of lack of knowledge. I’ll be doing a series and sharing the secrets you need to know about love relationship from my new book: “UNFADING LOVE: Secrets you need to know about love relationship”.
LOVE SECRET 1 - THE SKY-VIEW
Good relationships don’t just happen. It involves deliberate actions taken in a desired direction by two people who really and genuinely want to be together”
It is often said that no one is an island. We all need the inputs of people to become who we want to be. Research indicates that strong relationships contribute to health at any age. A review of 148 studies found out that people with strong social relationships are 50% less likely to die prematurely. In our journey through life, it is expedient we realize that our relationships influence us a great deal. In fact as humans, we all crave for and certainly need close relationships regardless of age, sex, nationality and color. Without relationships, life is empty. In truth, we are wired for relationships by God – for a relationship with Him through salvation, for a relationship with family/life partners through blood, and a relationship with friends through interests. While some relationships have blossomed into beautiful unions, some others have ended badly – causing scars, pains, disappointments, fears and regrets.
THE ESSENCE OF DATING
The Bible in Hosea 4:6(GNT) says: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…”
Many failures in dating relationships are products of ignorance. Their understanding of the essence and demands of dating was shallow and clearly they were not prepared for that level of commitment. Your understanding of the concept of dating will help you in making the right choice on whom to be committed to. Knowledge is good, but your ability to apply knowledge is power. This is made possible through clarity – good understanding of what you’re getting into and how it can affect your whole life.
YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONCEPT OF DATING
WILL HELP YOU IN MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICE
ON WHOM TO BE COMMITTED TO”
What is dating?
The word ‘dating’ means different things to different people. But the most common understanding of this word is described “as a stage in the development of a relationship between two people who often spend time together in order to explore their sexual or romantic compatibility”.
According to Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia: “Dating is a stage of romantic relationships in humans whereby two people meet socially with the aim of each assessing the other’s suitability as a prospective partner in an intimate relationship or marriage.”
Dating is a level of commitment that should be purposeful and intentional. Even though you’ve dated for a long time, you still end up marrying a stranger. Dating is a new concept with a lot of perks and pitfalls. Undoubtedly, the truth is that we all want to be loved and be involved in a relationship that will end in a blissful marriage, which is good, but if you are desperate about it you might end up making the choosing the wrong person as a life partner.
DATING IS A CONCEPT WITH A LOT OF
PERKS AND PITFALL”
Here are 5 things you need to consider in dating
  1. PURPOSE : Purpose is simply defined as the reason or intent for a particular thing. There are two points you need to be ponder with regards to purpose
  1. Know where the relationship is leading to:
Defining the purpose of your proposed relationship is very important. What does he/she really want from the relationship? Is the person purpose-driven? Motivational Speaker and Author, Myles Munroe once wrote: “If purpose is not discovered, abuse is inevitable”. Knowing if the person really wants you as much as you want him/her are very important. Another vital consideration is why he/she wants you. Does he/she want you just to help solve loneliness issues, to satisfy their sexual needs, for show-off, for financial gains, for fun/pleasure hangouts, or for looks? Are they interested and intentional about dating you with the purpose of it leading to marriage.? Don’t get carried away by the sweet words, do well to know the needed before accepting to date a person. Don’t board a flight that is going nowhere.
  1. Is the person on the path of self-discovery?
There was a movie I watched few years ago about a young couple who had everything all rosy in their dating relationship and eventually got married. The early stage of their marital affair was sensational as they shared an undying love for each other. Soon afterwards, the walls of their marriage began to crack because the woman wanted to practice her professional career as a lawyer. Hell was let loose as the husband wouldn’t have that happen. To him if she was to do that, this meant less attention to family matters. Consequently, this led to their divorce as both of them couldn’t agree. Here’s my point – many frustrations in relationships are as a result of undiscovered purpose. Don’t date someone who’s not ready to discover his/her God-given purpose. We were all created by God for, by and with a purpose. He created us all for a reason which defines our lives and existence here on earth. The discovery of our God-given purpose helps us to live intentionally. The issue with this is that when you date someone that is not on the path of self-discovery, the person will definitely slow down the pace of your life progress. Many dreams, careers and visions have been frustrated and destroyed as a result of undiscovered purpose. American Philosopher and Psychologist, Abraham Maslow in his major works on “Motivation and Personality”, and “Toward a Psychology of Being” initiated the theory on the hierarchy of needs. He pointed out that the first need of every human is self-actualization – the need to discover who you are and what you are capable of doing and becoming. This is key for anyone who wants to be in a relationship commitment.
  1. LIVE AND ENJOY BEING SINGLE : When the subject of “being single” is raised, many people view it as a life of boredom, loneliness and or living without a partner. The society has formed a myth for people to believe that being single is the worst thing that can happen to a person. Young people have been brainwashed with the fallacies that they need to be in love relationship to be fulfilled. The word single has more than just one meaning, but I’ll give you the best definition:
Being single simply means being intra-dependant or self-dependant. It is the ability to live and be fulfilled without been dependent on anyone”.
It is expedient you realize that for you to enjoy a successful relationship, you need to understand and also connect with someone who knows what it means to be single. Don’t date anyone who is solely dependent on you. One of the deadly killers of love relationships is unfulfilled expectations. Many people go into relationships thinking their partner is the solution to their numerous problems and needs. They feel incomplete or unfulfilled without their partner and depend so much on the person. Unfortunately for them, things turn out differently and their love turns sour. Don’t date anyone whose weight of expectations will pull you down. Relationship is a vacuum; whatever the partners decide to put into it, is what it will eventually be. There must be an agreement between you two that individually you both have a part to play to make the relationship work. It is not a one-person show. You both need to jointly drive the ship of your love to where you want it to be. The Bible sheds more light on this in Amos 3:3(GNT):“Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?”
SINGLENESS SIMPLY MEANS BEING
INTRA-DEPENDENT
OR SELF-DEPENDENT.
IT IS THE ABILITY TO LIVE AND BE
FULFILLED WITHOUT BEING
DEPENDENT ON ANYONE”
If you both don’t share similar ideas in this regard or your thoughts are not in sync, then there is no need for a love relationship. Date a helper and a life builder, someone that is ready to build a future with you, and really complements you sweetly.
  1. CHARACTER IS IMPORTANT : Character creates a foundation upon which the structure of your life can be built. Leadership Expert, John c. Maxwell wrote this on character: “People are like icebergs. There’s much more to them than meets the eye. When you look at an iceberg, only about 15% is visible – that’s reputation. The rest – their character is below the surface, hidden. It’s what they think and never share with others. It’s what they do when no one is watching them,”
So, what is character?
Character is who you are when no one is watching. It is who you are in the dark when no one sees you. It is the product of our everyday choices.
I quite agree with John Maxwell. What we see people as is not exactly what and who they really are. People might appear nice, gentle, respectful, and even Godly, but on the inside they are deadly. Their public reputation is not in sync with their private doings. How well you know the character of your potential date or the person you’re currently dating is important. Character issue is a major home/relationship breaker. Most people tend to discover the real character of their partners after years of having their heads and hearts played with in fool’s paradise. A bad character is like a flat tyre, it can’t take you anywhere.
Here are the four cores that make up character
  1. SELF-DISCIPLINE
Self-discipline is the training of the training of the body and the mind to achieve a goal. It is also the ability to do what is right even when you don’t feel like doing it. Being disciplined in a relationship certainly means being able to guard your thoughts, control your desires and weigh your actions. If your partner can get this right, then it’s a good one for both of you, if not then dark clouds will gather over the relationship. The Bible shares in 1 Corinthians 10:23(GNT) :
All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.”
  1. CORE VALUES
Core values are those things you consider right for yourself. It gives order and structure to your life, and so it does to a relationship. Are the core values of you and your partner in sync with God’s standards for a relationship? It is either you follow God’s standards by choice or the world’s standards by default. The Bible in Philippians 4:8(GNT) says:
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.”

John Maxwell refers to core values as a guiding light during the darkest moments”. Deep words from him and do well ponder on this.
  1. A SENSE OF IDENTITY:
How consistent is your partner in words and deeds? Is he/she a chameleon that changes its color wherever it goes or as pure as a dove? A sense of identity is very important to our lives. Even Jesus Christ during his earthly ministry understood the need for a sense of identity when he asked his disciples two deep questions: “Who do men say that I am?” and “Who do you say that I am?”. Their response was positive. What do people say about him/her? How do people see him/her. Don’t get caught in a web that might later become too strong to pull down. No matter how hard they try to pretend, it won’t be long before their colors show. Listen and watch carefully and you will know the right one for you .
     d. INTEGRITY
Integrity is the pathway to honor. It is the ability to stay true to your deepest and strongest convictions regardless of circumstances. The Bible in Proverbs 10:9(GNT):
Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out”.
The currency for integrity is trust. Can you trust the person enough to give and spend the rest of your life with him/her? Is the person reliable to confide in? Does the person live in secrecy or open to tell you things that concerns him/her? If otherwise, then don’t date.
CHARACTER IS WHO YOU ARE IN
THE DARK WHEN NO
ONE SEES YOU.”
  1. FINANCE
Knowing your partner’s attitude towards money is important. Is he/she a spendthrift or a good manager of resources? Does he /she have an insatiable desire to make money at all cost? Tread carefully before you become a victim of evil schemes. Is the person willing to commit financially to the building of the relationship? This is very crucial to avoid disappointments and frustrations. According to research, differences over money is one of the top reasons for marital dissolution.
  1. START WITH FRIENDSHIP:
Friendship is a sweet form of relationship that if true can lead to endless possibilities. Deep within our hearts is a desire to connect with another individual. The problem is that we live in a fast-paced world that we rarely have time to develop and sustain meaningful friendships. But the truth is that best romantic relationships are products of great friendships. In fact, it is advisable you marry your friend. Why?, this is because you both share a bond and also know much about each other. To enjoy an amazing relationship that will blossom into a blissful union, lean on these principles. Let me share this great quote by Great Evangelist, Billy Graham: “God is more interested in your future and relationships than you are.” Think about it, it’s a food for thought.

GRIMACE 2

Soon it was New Year’s Eve and obviously my days were numbered in the village. But believe me what I envisaged my return to the village to be was a stark difference from what I am experiencing. Mama’s suspicious looks often gave me weak feet and had me living on a lifeline. At times I felt like an animal being sliced through the throat to die whenever her eyes came in contact with mine.
Chukwuma, if one plucks fruit with the intention of filling his bag, he falls to his death at the base of the tree. Remember the day of war is not the day of judgement.”
This was another firing line from Mama that caused goose pimples all over my body and I couldn’t stand it. Why on earth will my own mother not to happy to see her son successful? Maybe she was only being mean because she was still hurting from the death of my twin sister, Oguchi. After all, something must give way for something to come in. Despite her dramas, Papa always leapt to my defence as he seemed to be the only one that understood the reason for my action. He was always on hand to encourage me to be a man.
On New Year ’s Day during the wee hours of the morning, I sat on my bed wondering how I could visit Oguchi’s grave, but suddenly a hand from the small window tapped me. I became nervous and tensed up. Then a voice spoke to me and urged me to make way to the lonely road beside the house that leads to the village stream. The voice said I would die if I didn’t yield to the command. I was startled and also feared for my life. Though I couldn’t see anybody, I had to promptly follow the voice until I got to a lonely place that looked like a shrine. Quickly a person covered in apparel showed up from the bush and suddenly uncovered its face. On seeing the person’s face, I passed out…

THE MIDNIGHT VISITOR 1: THE FALSE DAWN

Life as we know is a plot of endless turns and twists. If tossed like a coin, at one moment it could be on its head - exciting and fulfilling for you, and at another it could be on its tail - bitter and sorrowful too. In another perspective, life could also be seen in three phases – the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good is usually full of sweet experiences that are far from the harsh realities of a hard-knock life. The bad is usually a blend of both the good and the ugly – it’s neither exciting nor sorrowful, but things don’t always seem blissful all the time, and while the ugly has everything to do with so much anguish, pain, sorrow and suffering. It’s an experience no one would love to live. For the people of Akubiri, life was very ugly for us.
At the village assembly, you could see wretchedness in the eyes of the people with many looking pale and on the brink of death due to hard sufferings. Our land was void of water like a desert and our leaves withered like a rotten corpse. We seemed like a people cursed by the gods. Just as we were about to grudgingly finding solace in our misery and to the thick clouds of obscurity, there came light at the end of the tunnel. How did our fortunes change?
'They say time is the wisest counselor of all'. How long shall we continue to endure the heat of the midday scorching sun that has made our head bald in hard labour?
'It is also been said that time waits for no man'. Shall we continue to feel the excruciating pain of hunger that has sapped every ounce of strength in our mortal bodies and killed our dreams?
Where and how far can we go if our minds are clouded with hopeless thoughts that make our weak and aged legs fail to take steps to where we can get help?
That has ceased our breath to the death and killed our young minds like still babies.

Shall we continue to suffer:
Pain for gain, Fear to preach our faith
Bane for fame, Shame to cover our nakedness under a shade

Insanity for the cause of change, Plagues that have destroyed our high places and palace,
Because fate has brought upon on false dawns.
Slavery for survival, Sorrow to live for tomorrow”

I promise to give to our beautiful land:
Beauty for ashes,
Pounds for years of hardship
Rain of wealth for years of hard sufferings
To find a cure to our plagues and make a way for our children's sake
Gladness to brighten our faces of sadness
And hope to rekindle our stars for a glorious tomorrow.

To have sweet voices to sing new songs
And dance to an ode to celebrate our divorce with poverty.

Votive gifts to make our land fertile
And prosperous for increase from dawn to dusk

I can never forget that very day as Chief Maduka, the wealthiest man in my village, who was also a politician made promises that would better the lives of the people if they supported his political ambition.
During his days on earth's walkway, he was widely referred to as 'nwoke obodo oyinbo'. Just recently back from his journey to the white man's land, his name was good music in the ears of all villagers as he was too generous to a fault. His words were sweeter than the honey from bees. He was husband to the widow and they nicknamed him 'dike'. He gave us access to modern infrastructures to make us feel at ease and education to empower the young. Our hearts beamed like the halogen lamp and our smiles were as wide as River Nile. Mazi Maduka’s return coincided with the New Yam Festival celebration. The ceremony was grand as he made sure the people had more than enough to eat and drink. A new dawn arose for the people and life became worth living. The grass became greener in our fields, but unknown to us our joy was short-lived…

I FOUND HIM

Years ago I was depressed and constantly tempted to commit suicide, but then my mind being an ocean reminded that a better future awaits me. Yet, the strains, bruises and blows of a hard-knock life brought more sorrows and pains that both became part and parcel of me. I had no friend to talk to and no family to hold onto. I needed a friend that would stick closer to me than a brother. They all deserted me because they felt I was insane, filthy and reeked with dirt. It felt like love was stolen from me. I was stranded and lost and had no place to call home. I was deeply in need, frustrated and with heavy heart. I sought help from the flowers, perhaps the sweet alluring fragrance from its petals may stir up the love within. But the closed up and never gave me a face. The walls heard me, and I tried to lean on them and they got me crashing on my back. I found out that they were screeching against my body and laughing at my insanity. I sought for the cold waters of the sea to wash away the pains of my lonely heart, but surprisingly it was as dry as my palms, yet again I felt rejected and disappointed. I yearned for the sweet melodious voices of the nightingales, but they kept mute on seeing me possibly thinking I was a living dead.
I returned into my shell, and loneliness gripped my empty mind. Anger and bitterness were mainstays in my heart. I found it so hard to give a smile. I was always alone, always sad, always scared, and startled by every little squeak. My sins made me weak and always brought me down to my knees. I was locked up in a world of my own. I needed someone to pull me close and show me the love I desired. I prayed silently in my mind for a better life. Miraculously, my prayers were heard and I had a special encounter. Now I have the best feeling of love and it’s the best thing that has ever happened to me. He told me he would be in my heart and give me paradise. Jesus is the love and my best friend I have and, I share this today all because I FOUND HIM.
Are you discouraged, downtrodden, hopeless, frustrated, homeless, heart-broken and heavy-laden with a yoke too much for you to bear? Believe me, Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life.

5 HABITS THAT CAN HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT

It is often said that health is wealth. In fact, without a doubt, the healthier we are, the more productive we will be. We cannot overlook our health status because it is very crucial to all other aspects of our lives and also contributes immensely to our general well-being.

Here are 5 habits that help you lose weight:
The mechanisms involved in body weight regulation in humans include genetic, physiological, and behavioral factors. Stability of body weight and body composition requires that energy intake matches energy expenditure and that nutrient balance is achieved. Human obesity is usually associated with high rates of energy expenditure.

EXERCISE REGULARLY
If you are determined to lose or control your weight, then it is expedient you understand that it will require regular physical activity. This will help you burn calories and builds muscle — both of which will help you look and feel good, and keep weight off. You could engage in 30 minutes walk every day, biking, or even in doing other things that will increase your daily level of activity that will in turn all make a big difference. More so, regular exercise of discipline, willpower and consistency will also help you to burn more calories. Increasing the intensity of your workout and add some strength exercises to build muscle could work a magic for you. The payoff is usually tremendous and for you to feel, look and stay healthy, then you must regulate your weight through regular exercises.

REDUCE SCREEN TIME
Research reveals that people who spend a lot of time in front of screens are more likely to be overweight. It could be the amount of time you spend watching TV, playing video games, and using computers, phones, and tablets, and if not reduced can lend a helping hand in increasing your body weight. Other studies reveal clearly that high amount of screen time can cause obesity, diabetes, and heart diseases in adults. High amount of screen time candisrupt your exercise routine, trigger food cravings, lead to mindless and needless snacking, and also interfere with sleeping time.

EAT PROPER DIET
Another habit to practice if you intentional about losing weight is to watch out for portion distortion. This you can do by eating proper diet. As Benjamin Franklin once said “Eat to live, rather than live to eat”, it is vital you control your portions on food that add extra calories that can lead to weight gain. Sugary beverages such as: sodas, juice drinks, and sports drinks, are empty calories that also contribute to obesity. So, it is advisable you choose your food intakes and portions appropriately, or better still go for water or low-fat milk instead of soda.

EAT FRUITS AND VEGGIES EVERYDAY
Eating fruits and vegetables is also another great way of losing weight. Eating fruits and veggies are about more than just vitamins and minerals. They are also packed with fiber, which means they fill you up. And when you fill up on fruits and veggies, you're less likely to overeat.

EAT A HEALTHY LIGHT MEAL
It is important to note that eating healthy also demands that you eat a healthy light meal. Eating heavy meals is common among people, but the secret is not in the quantity but in the quality of the meal. The truth is overeating makes you tired and sluggish, whereas eating lightly is a no-brainer as it makes you feel healthy and alert. Thomas Jefferson once wrote: “No one ever regretted eating too little after a meal”. Another important thing you need to do if you are to lose weight is to eat breakfast regularly. Breakfast is very vital because it kick-starts your metabolism, burning calories from the get-go and giving you energy to do more during the day. People who skip breakfast often feel so hungry that they eat more later on. So they get more calories than they would have if they ate breakfast. In fact, people who skip breakfast tend to have higher body mass than people who eat breakfast.

GRIMACE 1

My joy knew no bounds as I made my long-awaited return back to the village after my adventure to the city to seek greener pastures there. Life was not rosy back then for us and being the first child I needed to take responsibility to liberate the family from poverty. I couldn’t wait to see Papa and Mama again after almost a decade since I set my eyes on them. They have been on my neck for me to come back home since I left, but I could not do that especially when I had nothing to show for then. But surely this time I was hell-bent on coming back to share with my family the fruits of my labour. They anticipated my homecoming and were excited when I told them I would come during the festive periods to spend quality time with them.
I arrived the village on Christmas Eve in my newly acquired Zenza car, looking good and in stupendous wealth.
Is this how city life can transform someone”, papa quizzed when I alighted from my car.
They were shell-shocked about my wealth except for mama in particular who was silent and didn’t seem excited about my homecoming. Rather she was suspicious about my wealth as both her words and actions depicted so. Everyone wondered why she was being indifferent, but she only responded by saying:
The door of truth never opens to prejudice. Old age is like anything else to make a success of it, you have to stand upright, all is not merry that dances lightly”.
Mama’s words were deep and threatened to spoil the happy mood my presence created, yet the joy was still short-lived. There was sad news as they told me about the demise of Oguchi, my twin sister while I was away. They couldn’t muster the courage to tell me about it as they feared I would have lost my mind if they had told me about her demise on phone during the times I called. They felt I would have killed myself considering the fact that both of us were very close. All throughout the night I was restless and couldn’t sleep as I cried my eyes out for the loss of my dear sister. As much as I tried to lie to sleep, pictures of her and the good memories we shared together incessantly flashed through my mind. I was terrified and out of sorts. My homecoming became uneasy. Things came to head as I incessantly refused to heed to both papa and mama’s words for me to go to my late sisters grave to pay my respect to her. I couldn’t just bring myself to doing that for fear of what might happen. But only if papa and mama knew what was going through my mind. How can I tell them what I am going through? It is much more than they can imagine…

MISEDUCATING THE YOUNG CHILD: THE DEADLY DISEASE KILLING THE SOCIETY

In any society, it is expected that education should be for the enhancement of the people, and also especially for the development of the young child until he or she becomes a source of blessing to humanity. In fact, it is through quality education that the young child is being trained on the necessity of serving his local community, and humanity, as well as bringing his own quota that will help in meeting the socioeconomic, intellectual and political needs of his nation and the world at large.
How is the young child miseducated? : Several years ago when I was still an undergraduate student in the University, I came across a bill board with a football advert on it. I was so irked with the message it passed across. It had the picture of a semi-nude lady posing with a football. Then the questions that sprang up in my mind were: What business did the lady have with a football game? Why weren’t football players used for the advert to pass across an ideal message? The truth is that our society has gone haywire and only hanging by a thread in terms of morality. The entertainment industry is not helping matters either with movie makers using obscene adverts to poison the mind of the young child – with nude pictures of thespians becoming the order of the day. Our school systems are a complete disaster and have become an incubator for corruption. Students now sort their way out of school with reckless abandon. The young child is taught how to indulge in exam malpractices and is made to see it as a norm. The business world has also taught the young child to be fraudulent, crafty and dubious in dealing with people. The young child is made to see the ethical codes of business as a food only for fools. Our politics have become ‘poorliticking’. Our leaders have turned governance into a bloody game for power-tussling megalomaniacs. These politicians teach the young child to embezzle public funds and be carefree about the affairs of people. Then our places of worship are no exception as most clergies have turned the service to God into cash-cow business empires for their selfish gain.
How can we produce the leaders of the present and future when we have failed systems that cannot appropriately train the young child? How can we give birth to a knowledgeable society of truly educated people when families no longer care about the welfare of their young children? How can the society develop when the young child is fed with negativity that can stunt his growth and development? Why won’t the society have a high number of juvenile delinquents involved in crime when the social environment is doing nothing to excite ambition? Certainly the society has forgotten that true education is the training of both the head and the heart. The problem of the society can be summed up in the words of Motivational Speaker, Myles Munroe on the study of the destructive behaviours of our modern and post-modern societies;
  • They have power without purpose.
  • They have money without meaning.
  • They have position without a passion for living.
  • They have houses, but no homes.
  • They have children, but are not nurturing their sons and daughters.
  • They protect animals, but kill their unborn human beings.
  • They pursue power at the expense of principles.
  • They sacrifice integrity for temporary pleasure.

I totally agree with him and these are the tenets the society teaches that lead to the miseducation of the young child. It’s high time we changed and looked for ways of helping the young child to develop in the right way. This could have been the reason why Abraham Licoln wrote this amazing letter to his child’s teacher. It reads:
My son starts school today. It is all going to be strange and new to him for a while and I wish you would treat him gently. It is an adventure that might take him across continents; all adventures that probably include wars, tragedy and sorrow. To live this life will require faith, love and courage. So dear Teacher, will you please take him by his hand and teach him things he will have to know, teaching him – but gently, if you can. Teach him that for every enemy, there is a friend. He will have to know that all men are not just, that all men are not true. But teach him also that for every scoundrel there is a hero; that for every crooked politician, there is a dedicated leader. Teach him if you can, that 10 cents earned is of far more value than a dollar found. In school, teacher, it is far more honorable to fail than to cheat. Teach him to learn how to gracefully lose, and enjoy winning when he does win.
Teach him to be gentle with people, tough with tough people. Steer him away from envy if you can and teach him the secret of quiet laughter. Teach him if you can – how to laugh when he is sad, teach him there is no shame in tears. Teach him there can be glory in failure and despair in success. Teach him to scoff at cynics. Teach him if you can the wonders of books, but also give time to ponder the extreme mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun and flowers on a green hill. Teach him to have faith in his own ideas, even if everyone tells him they are wrong. Try to give my son the strength not to follow the crowd when everyone else is doing it. Teach him to listen to everyone, but teach him also to filter all that he hears on a screen of truth and take only the good that comes through.
Teach him to sell his talents and brains to the highest bidder but never to put a price tag on his heart and soul. Let him have the courage to be patient, let him have the patience to be brave. Teach him to have sublime faith in himself, because then he will always have sublime faith in mankind, in God. This is the order, teacher but see what best you can do. He is such a nice little boy and he is my son.”
A food for thought on this issue is a quote by John F. Kennedy which says: “A child miseducated is a child lost”. It is expedient we come together and raise the leaders of the future by giving them true education.

HELD BOUND 2

I was brought down to earth as Dianne stared at me wanting an answer. I was caught up between the devil and the deep blue sea. My mind travelled many miles away from my abode. In the midst of my clouded thoughts, she held me so close and then lured me into her bosom. It was rainy and the rainfall between her thighs was heavy. I couldn’t flinch or say a word as we were lost in ecstasy. The hard truth is that a part of me wanted to stay with her to have my twins and watch them grow to know their father and also build a family. But another yearned to go back to home to live the life I had left behind before my search for greener pastures brought Dianne and I together. There was still something that held me from going back home, but I was afraid to tell her about it because if I did, I might not live to tell the story. Her heart was glass-made and believe me she wouldn’t hesitate to send me six-feet below if I dared hurt her feelings after all she told me she had been through. Each passing day brought deep thoughts, but the more I tried to make up my mind, the more I was firmly in her grips.

Let me be the woman that will make you the man you want to be”, she said

That was on a cold midnight rendezvous while we laid on the green field close to the house we stayed. So many things were strange about her. It’s three months I’ve been with her and I’m yet to see anyone coming to see her. Could it be that she doesn’t have friends? Could it be she doesn’t have a family? These boggling questions made me wonder greatly, yet again she jolted me out of my thoughts.

Jay I have enough wealth to last us and our unborn children for a lifetime, make me your wife.”

I was really in a state of limbo because if she had enough wealth like she claimed why then did she ask me for money for food when we first met? Why then was she fierce and hungry when I saw? I shrugged off these thoughts from my mind. The reality was that what she asked for was a huge commitment on my part, but was I really ready for such? NO! I wasn’t, but her incessant insistence on we being together gave me no option than to commit to her will. Then I decided to stay with her. I vowed to make her my wife and be her husband. I made up my mind to share in her wealth and build a lovely home with her and we would happy together. We celebrated our love that very night in each other’s arms and our joy knew no bounds. Not too long and suddenly the moon descended between us and the first crack on the wall of our love affair took a hit. A parcel was sent and delivered to us, but it was Dianne who went to get it. When she was back, the expression on her face was fierce again.

Do you have another family?” she asked me. Then I just knew my wife and kids in the city had sent a letter to know about my state of affairs. I couldn’t bear hurting her feelings so I had no choice than to tell her the truth. “Not again!” she raged as a great flood gushed out from her eyes. I had hurt her like the other men she had met did. But after a while she suddenly kept mute with masked smiles on her face. Then I remembered that hell has no furry than a scorned woman. Her camouflaged actions frightened me the more and I seriously wondered what she might be up to. My fingers were crossed and my heart was beating so fast. I felt like a bush animal trapped by the hunter’s hook trap with my freedom still at her mercy…

To be continued….
