HEALTHY LIVING: 5 REASONS WHY REGULAR MEDICAL HEALTH CHECKUPS ARE IMPORTANT

There is a popular saying that ‘health is wealth’, and this old maxim is absolutely true. In fact, our health and physical state is the most important part of our lives because there is no way we can function or perform at peak level if we are experiencing one health challenge or the other. It is quite saddening that it is only when we are sick that most of us visit the doctor, and in most cases such habit has proved regrettable. According to the Centers for Disease Control, regular health exams and tests can help find problems before they start or when they are most treatable. Health living has its benefits and should be done consciously and intentionally, and one of the ways to do so is by consulting for regular medical checkups. Remember early diagnosis of any medical issue can save your life, so it is expedient you realize that staying wealthy is dependent on you staying healthy. With extreme population and global warming, the activeness of germs and viruses is more than ever. So, it is very vital for us to have regular medical checkups either quarterly or annually so as to help our general well-being.
Here are 5 reasons why regular medical health checkup are important:

1.     LOWER HEALTHCARE  COSTS:
One of the frightening and daunting reasons why many people don’t go for regular medical checkups is because of the huge money they feel will be involved. I have always had a personal principle with regards to this and it states: “It is either you pay now and enjoy or you suffer the consequences and pay much more and still get drained financially later on.” Regular health medical checkups are a part of one’s fitness routine and is a no-brainer. It is as important as exercising regularly and healthy dieting.  These regular checkups ensure that you save money in the long run. The checkups help to save us from the risks of potentials health ailments, diseases and disorders.

2.     PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
There is a popular saying that ‘prevention is better than cure’, and it is absolutely right. Regular medical checkups help the doctors diagnose a disease, ailment or disorder before it gets to its worst case scenario. This can also help the doctors give advice on numerous tests and preventative screenings as well as possible treatments that can help to abruptly stop the growing nature of any health challenge that has been diagnosed. Remember, ‘a stitch in time saves nine.’

3.     IDENTIFY AND DEAL WITH STRESS-RELATED DISEASES
It has been widely identified and investigated that stress is one of the root cause of many physical problems such as high blood pressure and hypertension, heart disease, depression, and even weight problems, etc. In a broad sense, stress can primarily impact on the mental and physical health of a person. To avoid being struck by any stress-related disease, then early diagnosis is very important through the help of regular medical checkups.

4.     TO KEEP YOUR BODY IN GOOD SHAPE

Our general well-being is paramount if we are to live healthy and wealthy. The only way you can stay updated on what’s going on in your life is by making yourself more aware of your health status. This can be made be possible by making regular medical checkup a habit.

5.     TO ESTABLISH YOUR HEALTH RISKS
Research reveals that most people who have a family history of health issues such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, cancer, heart disease, or another chronic disease are more at risk for these conditions. The good news is that there are things you can do to lower your risks if you fall in this category. Attention to regular medical checkups through the help of your doctor can help you stay healthy.

LEADING YOU: 5 KEY AREAS YOU NEED TO BUILD IN YOUR LIFE

“There’s nothing wrong in having a beautiful picture of your future, but the onus is on you to turn that beautiful picture into a beautiful reality.”
-         NWOSU J. OBICHI

Life is a product of the choices we make. It is either we make our choices or our choices will make us. Research reveals that 70% of our choices will either be enjoyed or endured in the fullness of time. When we make the right choices, the right results follow, but when our choices are wrong then we are ultimately left to live and deal with the consequences that follow suit. It is expedient we realize that our choices can either make or break you. One important decision to make in order to make the best out of your life and secure the kind of future you always dream about is to intentionally decide to build the key areas that have the most impact on your life.
In this article, I’ve come up with the key areas I feel we all need to intentionally build. Check them out, have a good read and make sure you do your best to work on these areas.

1.     BUILD YOUR SPIRITUALITY
It is very much believed that the spiritual controls the physical. With this mind, building your spirituality should be your number one priority. Your relationship with God is a key if you desire to experience life fulfillment. Your whole life is dependent on Him as He is the only source and power behind your existence and the success you want to achieve. More so, building your spirituality is a no-brainer as it will help see you through life difficulties. You can do so by intentionally practicing spiritual habits such as: constant fellowship with the Holy Spirit, praying and fasting, reading the Bible or something else that works for you. Our dissatisfactions in life are as a result of our separation from God. Just be aware that nothing frightens, frustrates, worries and kills the devil the most than a believer who is on fire for God.’

2.     BUILD HEALTHY HABITS
Health is wealth, and ensuring you are hale and hearty is important for your life. It’s often been said that we are all creatures of habit, but the most important thing to note is that every habit has a consequence be it either good or bad. It is advisable that you unlearn your bad health habits and also learn or relearn good health habits so that you can enjoy the benefits of healthy living. You have the power to create the life you want to live including learning how to build new healthy habits. Take out time to point out your good and bad health habits, and make sure you do away with the bad and work more on living out the good.

3.     BUILD A STRONG  FINANCIAL FOUNDATION
Whether you like to admit it or not, finance plays a very huge role in both in securing the future you desire and the kind of life you want for yourself. Many people have seen their hopes dashed, dreams shattered, and their future delayed because of financial constraints. They are overwhelmed by debts, financial lack, bankruptcy, insufficiency, and even live in poverty.  As taught by Financial Guru, Robert Kiyosaki, most people live in the rat race; from paycheck to paycheck with absolutely nothing left to help them pursue their dreams. But the secret to ending all these struggles is by building a strong financial foundation for yourself. Building a strong financial foundation is like constructing a bridge for yourself so that your journey faster and better without obstruction and delay. It can be the platform you need in order for you to fulfill your potentials, and can also be the springboards to enable reach your dreams. Learning about the essence of financial investments and the necessity to venture into it in order to be on the path of financial independence and freedom is a way of building a strong financial foundation for yourself.

4.      BUILD YOUR KNOWLEDGE BANK
There’s a popular saying that a person is old or young at 80 or 20 if he/she keeps learning or if he/she stops learning. To reach your dreams and live to the fullness of your potentials, then you need to hunger and thirst for knowledge. Nothing beats a person who is constantly making efforts towards becoming better. The more knowledge you have, the more power you have to change your world. Intentionally decide to learn, unlearn and relearn every moment of your life, and I promise you’ll see remarkable changes and results in your life.

5.     BUILD MEANINGFUL & POWERFUL RELATIONSHIPS
No man is self-made and can get to the top alone. You surely need others to be with you all the way. So, it is expedient you learn how to build meaningful and powerful relationships. The first and most important you should build is your relationship is with God. More of which I will write about in my next point. Then next is building a good relationship with your family. Make out time to spend with them. The next is building a relationship with people I call “your reference group.” In this category, you have mentors, friends that love, value and support what you do and represent, productive protégés, and leaders in your life, etc. Be intentional about relationship and make sure you find purpose in them. Remember you can’t be friends with everyone you meet; you can’t be close to just anybody, and you just can’t please everybody. Choose your reference group wisely.
Let’s get your comments on other areas in life you feel a person needs to invest in. Please also like and share this article to your family and friends.

CHOOSE TO BE DIFFERENT

Nothing is sweeter and more satisfying than the feeling of living life and achieving something worthwhile with a pure conscience. Life will not give to you what you feel you deserve, but what you make a demand for, and in dire situations it is quite difficult for us to live without the things we desperately need. It is in moments like this that our strength of character is being tested. It is very easy to say you want to live right, but the actual reality is when you are able to backup your words with actions.
Times have changed and so has it been with cultures around the world. Nowadays young people have gone haywire. Young girls walk on the streets semi-nude or worst still completely nude all in the name of fashion. They sell their bodies and even boast about sleeping with every Dick, Tom and Harry, and even with some men old enough to be their 'forefathers'. Some go as far as sleeping with animals (bestiality), abuse social media by uploading their dirty pictures and making meaningless posts without second thoughts of how damaging it could be to them both in the present and in the future. It is now a normality to find young people engaging in sexual relationships just because they what to belong. Daylight murder of babies from unwanted pregnancy and such anomaly is now seen as a modern trend. For the ones saddled with keeping the babies, show no sign of remorse or mental rehabilitation to right their wrongs just like their male counterparts who are so engrossed in social vices. They pride in their youthful exuberance. Where did we forget our morals? What do we see today from our young men of today? Their absolute show of irresponsibility and lack of purpose makes me wonder if there is any hope left for humanity. Their strength which should be their glory is now been channeled into crime. Their quest for power has led majority of them into cultism. I can recall the words of English Catholic Historian, Politician and Writer:
'Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely...'
Hooliganism, homosexualism, leasbianism, drug abuse, internet fraud and other acts of perversion by these young people makes me sick and wonder if they'll ever leave good footprints in the sands of time. How did we consent to their dirty lifestyles that seen them become prisoners in the gulag of mediocrity? Now, they have also been possessed by the spirit of mammon as their insatiable appetite for money has led many into evil and diabolic practices.
So contemptuous is the fact these young people are encouraged by negligent adults who are either parents or guardians also caught up in the web of immoral life. The public officer who steals from the government coffers? The clergy whose masked deceits has led many of his sheep to hell? , the educator who miseducates a young child into destruction?, the parents who are a shadow of themselves and are not true role model for their children to emulate?, and I could go on. The society prefers to celebrate “a Barrabas” who is evil and has caused them pain, than “a Jesus” who is meant to be their Saviour. A good man is not revered and is seen as the devil's advocate for his good deeds. Living in the society has never been more questionable than it is now. Where do we go from here? It's time for us to live right. We must challenge the status quo and be the change we want the world to see. It starts with personal culture.
It's time for a change. Remember, nothing changes around and about you until something changes within you.
Cheers!

ARE YOU ON YOUR WAY TO REGRET??

Isn't it sad that we spend so much time on things that are urgent that we have none left for those things that are not important? Don’t get it twisted OK? I know working hard for a better life for yourself and family is great but then again I don’t think you can get too much money, but if money gets you that’s too much. If you make it to the top and lose your true friends and family in the process, is that success? Are you taking for granted the moments with the real people close to you or the ones trying to be close to you but focusing on the future moment that doesn't even exist? Life is short and there has never been a death regret that said "I wish I spent more time chasing money or career".

DEALING WITH DEPRESSION (Contd.)

Hey champ! Why did you click on this post? Did you click because you are looking for help or you want to get information in order to help a loved one going through depression? Then you just clicked the one post that will change everything positively for you.

Let’s look at statistics; according to the World health organisation (WHO), 300 million people around the world have depression. Nearly 50 percent of all people diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. It is also estimated that 15 percent of the adult population will experience depression at some point in their life-time (personal reason: because life is hard).

The most important thing about depression is that “you are not alone”. Depression affects people from all walks of life, no matter their background. The reason anyone gets depressed always comes down to the consistent thought they think and the consistent beliefs they hold. There is an external factor that didn’t materialize in their lives or they have lost something outside of their control. Depression goes hand in hand with frustration and anxiety. That voice tell you that what you are going through will never end, you can’t get out of this, it’s over for you and all those negative thoughts that flood your mind, all encourage depression in you.

Depression is a feeling of deep sadness and loneliness. It is that state of mind that makes you not to do what you normally do, loose interest in pleasurable activities (anhedonia), makes you feel undeserving of anything good from the world or people. All you wish for is to just end it all (suicide).

Some symptoms of depression are as follows:
  • Appearance: Fearful and sad.
  • Behaviour: social withdrawal, decreased talkativeness, deteriorating self-care, irritability.
  • Thought content: Brooding (deeply thoughtful), self-pity, low self-esteem, pessimism, sense of failure, feeling punished, helpless and hopeless, wish to die.

What you need to know deep inside is that this is just a natural process of becoming a stronger version of yourself. Getting out of depression is never easy, it’s really hard. Life is hard but then again will you allow life put you down? Challenges of life are inevitable. They are going to do their best to take you down, just don’t let them. There is light at the end of the tunnel. You didn’t come to this part of the world by yourself. Something brought you here and that should tell you that you were meant to be here. This part of the world won’t be complete without you no matter how insignificant you think you are, that’s the truth. So line up those problems, face them and fight them. Always see depression as the night (darkness), and after the night what comes next? You guessed right champ; the morning (light).

Here are some suggestions that will help you get out of depression:
  • Define why you are depressed: Ask yourself “why am I depressed?” You will be amazed what this simple question can do to your depression situation.
  • Share your problems: Depression makes you think no one will ever understand what you’re going through or what you feel. The fear of what people will say or letting yourself out in the open will hinder you from sharing your problems. Try talking to someone, maybe a loved one, a friend or even a total stranger (sometimes this helps).Let it off your chest and find out if there is a way around your problems. Remember a problem shared is half solved. Start a conversation, because staying locked up won’t help.
  • Consider therapy: Most people suffering from depression find it very difficult considering therapy. They don’t even want to hear about it. This is because they feel it makes them more vulnerable, but the truth is that if you summon the courage for therapy, it can go a long way making them better.
  • Try helping someone: This may sound a little bit off to you but of a truth the results are amazing. Try putting your sadness, fear, hopelessness and helplessness aside for a moment and try helping someone else. No matter how little, just try helping someone. You can help with anything, e.g. try to stop a child from crying, help someone carry a bag, talk to a person you see sitting alone, help an elderly person get a cab home etc. There is a lot you can do for someone. What this does is to give you a sense of belonging, relevance and significance. In the process you begin to understand that there are a lot of people who need help and not just you. It helps build courage to step out and seek solution for yourself because you have answered the clarion call to be your brother’s keeper and in the process you have learnt from the problems and situations of people you have helped.

Some people will tell you “think positive”, but don’t try to. Trying to force yourself to think positively can actually make the worries worse. The reason why is because it is really hard to just change the channel (negative thoughts) already in your mind. What you have to do first is to interrupt the channel, turn it off and turn it on with another set channel for positive thinking. Furthermore, try to focus on your breathing, feel how air goes in and out of you. That right there means you are alive, and as long as there is life there is hope.

I can keep going on and on with this post because there are a whole lot of things to be shared, but the real job to get out of this depression state which you are in is on you. You have a choice and don’t let fear paralyze you. No matter how low you have sunk, no matter how bleak your situation is, this is not the end. It is not how your story will end, it is not the final chapter of your life.

Depression is a thief. It has stolen dreams, lives, happiness, friends, family and a lot more from this world. Don’t let it steal you too. Show the world that you are a champ. Champs don’t quit and champs don’t let depression hold them down. Champs get up, fight and win.
