THE MIDNIGHT VISITOR 3: THE DANGER THAT AROUSED FEAR

'(poon poon poon poon poon poon poooon....) Umu Amaobu...the silent gun of the hunter has killed its prey, we are all expected to be at the village square to hear from the chief priest', Uzor, the town crier shouted loud around the village like a dog on rampage. No wonder he was referred to as a trumpeter.
There was a blood bath the night before the summoning of the villagers as life was no like longer at ease. Both the young and old were dying mysteriously. It's been seven eke market days since the visit of the 'midnight visitor' and yet no clue to the strange events in the land. I still couldn't speak about anything I saw. I experienced an emptiness in my brain like an amnesia and often behaved like one struck with dementia. The more I tried to remember, the harder it seemed to recount what actually happened. Mama kept wondering why I couldn't say anything about it.
'We need to consult Ala', the omens are bad for our land. I see more deaths and mysterious things happening, the chief priest thundered with a loud voice. Fear gripped everyone and suddenly there was utter darkness in the land.
'Speak up our son...my child tell us'...the elders and mama urged me.
The more I tried to find my voice to speak, the more my sight became blur to see the message of the visitor. Soon blood began to gush out of my eyes as tears. The more the flow of tears, the more the people died. The whole village turned into a mourning ground as news of the death of the Royal House brought tears and fears. The truth was far from them, but in my heart and not yet time to be revealed. More tales of my silence and masked words greeted them.
'The child is cursed, bewitched and should be cast into the evil forest', said, Mazi Madu.
Mama was helpless and weak to speak for me. My tears were their blood of pain and anguish that caused countless deaths. Their lives knew no peace thereafter and I became their living hell. My eyes locked up suddenly, lips sealed, and the mystery of midnight visitor yet unrevealed.
To be continued…
