JUST ANOTHER DAY

The world population is now estimated to be about 9 billion and that’s quite a lot of people dwelling in its different parts. More so, more than two-third are engaged in different forms of hustle just to earn a living. But nothing can beat the vest and zest of my fellow country people in my lovely country called Nigeria. The manner at which people approach the day can be so mesmerizing. From the buka women who solve the problem of stomach infrastructure “food is ready”, to the cyclists, and velocipede drivers riding around the areas just to make another day count.
The busy streets triggered by the rush hour morning period where almost everyone is hitting the road to find their daily bread...ehen sha…but for some people their force of gravity go make you feel say na the bakery them want o. Then, you hear the hoarse, deep and loud voices of agberos jostling up and down the places beckoning on people to board their buses to their various destinations.
“Mile 1 Port!, Port! One chance, one chance…!
The hustle becomes real when any of the bus drivers fails to hand over the unconstituted agreed tip of “sky boy” which is N50 to an agbero for loading passengers, then hell is lose loose as they are ready to kill to have their paycheck. You can't blame them: “food is god to a hungry stomach.” It is money that buys the food needed to prevent stomachic tsunami from happening. After all: “no padi for jungle.”
People still rush to work despite the horrible traffics because they have to make ends meet or risk losing their jobs. Remember, “a bird at hand is worth more than a million in the bush”, and the unemployment situation in the country has turned everyone into self-employed even on social media. The most interesting places to get the latest news in my country are the least places you’ll expect if you’re new. The first place is in hair dressing saloons; where a gaggle of geese meet temporarily to talk about issues that they most times have very little or no fact about. You’ll hear stories like:
“Do you know that Bobrisky is now born-again.na wa o wonders will never end, mtcheew!?”
“I even heard that Regina Daniels bewitched her old husband, Ned Nwoko, people can do things o!”
Then we have the newspapers stands where you’ll see people who have microscopic lenses around the world tell you fabricated stories that could make you suffer from heart attack. Just at the climax of a heated argument, you’ll hear a cock and bull story that will make thunder to almost strike the person saying it. Then you’ll know the true meaning of white lie. The next stop is in buses commuting people to their various destinations. Different storylines enough to make an encyclopedia are dished out from peoples’ mouths and sincerely if you don’t hold yourself, you might just be the next victim of a knockout from Floyd Mayweather. Another comic side of this road adventure is when you come in contact with some so-called self-professed medics who will tell you how Dr. Iguedo’s Goko Cleanser can heal you from all kinds of health issue. It is real wa for them o. Abi they brought the healing balm from Gilead.
People do so much for things that would perish and care less about the consequences of their actions. We hustle, but let it be with a pure conscience. When we relate, let’s do so in love. When we love, let’s do so sacrificially. When we give, let’s give our best. This life is too short for hate and contempt. Remember, we only live once, and we sure need to make it count. You might not have just another day to do things right!
