SELF-EDUCATION (2): 5 WAYS TO EDUCATE YOURSLEF
The
difference between greatness and mediocrity is habit. Great people
have a habit and so do mediocre. Every habit delivers results. One of
the habits of great people is that they devote their time, energy and
resources to developing themselves via self-education, while a
mediocre majors in minor things that bring little or no value to his
life. I strongly believe that the reason why someone is better than
you is because the person is doing what you are not doing. The path
of self-education is the road best travelled by those who want to be
great. Greatness is not accidental; it requires deliberate actions
taken in a desired direction. If you desire to be great then follow
the path of educating yourself intentionally. Motivational Speaker
and Author, Jim Rohn once said: “Formal
Education will make you a living; self-education will make you a
fortune.”
Self-education is very beneficial if it is intentional, purposeful
and resourceful. Here are ways you can educate yourself.
1.
BE
ON A LIVE UPDATE – BUY AND READ GOOD BOOKS:
One
way you can self-educate yourself is to buy and read good books. If
you aspire to reach the zenith of your career, live to reach your
maximum potentials and be successful, and then you’ll need to make
reading a lifestyle. Leadership Expert, John C. Maxwell once said:
“Show
me a reader and I’ll tell you a leader”.
You cannot divorce leading from reading. The best leaders in any
field are those that commit to intentional studying of good books and
have made it both a habit and a priority. There are many free online
websites where you can download and read books for free. Many people
give the excuse of saying that reading is boring. Writer, Mark Twain
had this to say: “A
man who does not read is the same as a man who cannot read.”
Remember,
you can only be as good as the information you have within and at
your disposal.
2.
EXPLORE
THE BENEFITS OF E-LEARNING
Today,
it is very much easier to learn something new and even bag a degree
in a particular field all thanks to e-learning. Many reputable
institutions are offering free online courses on websites like Udemy,
Coursera, edX, Learn for Nigeria and other popular websites. Harv
Eker, The Author of the best-selling book: “The Secrets of the
Millionaire Mind advised; “It is not enough to be at the right
place and at the right time. But be the right person at the right
place and at the right time”. If you want to be the right person
and also be different from the other learners, and even among your
peers, then you can do well to explore the benefits of e-learning by
studying courses or bagging certifications for free online.
3.
LEARN
FROM DIFFERENT MEDIUMS:
It
is advisable that you gain knowledge from different mediums. You can
by reading relevant articles on blog sites, attending seminars,
watching TV documentaries, and doing a research on your niche or area
of interest. Don’t limit yourself to a single source of knowledge
and do well to practice what you learn. It is expedient to note that
knowledge is vital, but applied knowledge is power.
4.
JOIN
ONLINE COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS:
The
Law of Attraction states that like attracts like. So it is with
people who have a strong appetite for knowledge. Like magnet, they
attract each other and connect without much fuss. If you feel bored
about learning in isolation, there’s good news for you. You can
join the online community of learners. Developments in technology has
created different social media platforms on which people can interact
as well as share their thoughts and ideas about a whole lot of
things.
5.
MENTORSHIP/GOOGLE
SEARCH:
Without
a doubt a person can learn a whole lot from meaningful conversations,
but also finding people who are experts in your areas of interest and
niche can actually be helpful in your quest to gain knowledge. Good
mentorship is also another valuable way of educating yourself. Also,
you can do use the Google search engine to explore and get regular
information on your niche and areas of interest.
